Electroacoustic Measurements for Voice Communication in Vehicles

This 1-day seminar teaches how to apply the principles of electroacoustics and telecom measurement to systems intended for voice communication in a vehicle.

Relevant methods and requirements specified in ITU-T, ETSI, IEEE, and other standards are explained and referenced throughout the seminar. Specialized principles, techniques and vocabulary used in measuring voice communications systems in vehicles are covered. You will be supplied with practical suggestions for the selection, calibration and use of microphones, head and torso simulators, background noise simulation systems, and other devices.

Some simple demonstrations will be given, and other actual measurement results will be presented. Understanding the principles and interpretation of measurements will be stressed throughout.

PREREQUISITE

Before attending this seminar, you should already be familiar with basic acoustic measurement, such as sound level and decibels. These topics will not be reviewed formally.

It is helpful to have some introductory knowledge of electroacoustic measurements on simple devices such as loudspeakers or microphones. However, a very brief review of these topics will be given as necessary throughout the seminar.

This seminar is designed for persons with or without previous knowledge or experience in measuring voice communication systems in vehicles. Throughout the seminar, concepts are presented at a basic level, while some details are presented at a more advanced level. The seminar is designed both to develop the knowledge of those new to the subject, as well as to offer some challenges for those with more experience.
